A seasoned guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer with over two decades of experience, Jason leads multiple dynamic projects that showcase his seamless blend of groove, earnest musicianship, and genre-spanning versatility.
MUSICAL PROJECTS:
As the driving force behind BIG BLU SOUL REVUE, Jason commands one of the most sought-after live bands on the West Coast—celebrated for its high-energy performances, soulful arrangements, and electrifying stage presence.
Through JASON MOVRICH & FRIENDS, he brings together a rotating ensemble of talented musicians to craft rich, improvisational experiences that fuse soul, funk, rock, jazz, and R&B into captivating live shows.
Additionally, he pays homage to the Grateful Dead’s legacy through PLAYING THE DEAD, channeling psych-rock textures, improvisation, and melodic homage to Jerry Garcia’s timeless influence.
ROOTS & INFLUENCES:
Raised in Chicago, Jason was immersed in the blues from an early age—drawing inspiration from legendary acts such as Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Son Seals, and Lonnie Brooks. Over the years, his influences have expanded to include funk icons like James Brown and The Meters; soul greats Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin; rock legends The Beatles and The Rolling Stones; and reggae ambassadors Bob Marley and Toots & the Maytals.
SESSION WORK & PRODUCTION:
As a studio professional, Jason brings precision and creative flair to every session—whether live or remote—from his home studio in San Francisco. Known for his clean yet dynamic guitar tones and expressive, bluesy vocal delivery, he’s valued for his versatility across soul, blues, funk, rock, and reggae.
HIGHTLIGHTS:
Shared stages with The Revolution (Prince’s band), Fred Wesley (James Brown’s bandleader), members of Galactic and Greyboy Allstars, Robert Walter, Glen David Andrews, Jim Belushi, and many others.
Career-spanning performances at major festivals including Stern Grove Festival, Gilroy Garlic Festival, Bay Area Blues Festival, For the Funk of It, Union Street Fair, Brews Jazz & Funkfest, and many more.
Played premier venues across the US: The Masonic Auditorium, Great American Music Hall, Blue Note Napa, Yoshi’s, Sweetwater, Boom Boom Room, , de Young Museum, Duke’s Waikiki, Crystal Bay Casino, Reggie’s in Chicago, and many others.
